Picture This: Concert Review
Buzzing crowd. Irish football chant. Beer, beer and more beer.
These are the 3 main components of any Picture This concert - I would know, it’s my second one. This Irish pop/folk/whatever you wanna call them band is the best way I’ve found to bring out and group together all the Irish folks in London.
So what do Picture This sing about? As one girl at the concert wrote “Picture This” is all about love. Yes they mostly write about romantic love, but they always right from real-life experiences as well. And their words are extremely touching to the point that I too started balling my eyes out at one of my favourites ‘Never Change’.
The two supporting acts were Charlotte and Enham, two young singer/songwriters growing their music careers who sang classic (well-written though slightly generic) autobiographical love songs. Picture This however is anything but generic. They look like a rock band if you switched the heavy drugs with weed and alcohol - brilliant energy, flashing lights but a soothing folkish voice.
When they come on around 9:15, as with any concert, the crowd lurches forward, embracing the act and we all get lost in the moment. The live music was phenomenal, the singing was great and the ambience was sweaty, limby and excited. Yet, half way through someone in the crowd next to my group of friends pointed out how the lead singer was lip-syncing and the drummer wasn’t drumming (the drum beats were loud and varied and the drummer was just playing on the same synth repeatedly). But the energy of the act was so contagious we just enjoyed the music and got lost in the lyrics.
Overall, it was a great evening and having seen them twice I would definitely see them again. The venue was a first for me - rare as an avid London concert goer - at 02 Forum in Kentish Town.
NB I hadn't listened to their whole album and enjoyed the show immensely - it’s the energy not how well you know the lyrics that really count.
